How do I cut the stone tiles?
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE CUTTING STONE!
Please use safety goggles and gloves as pieces will come off!
Using a wet saw to cut the stone tile:
It is important to follow all the safety instructions that you received with your wet saw. Please do not remove blade guards or forget to use eye protection. Remember that you are now working with water and electricity so make sure that your power source is higher than your saw so you do not allow water to run down the power cord and into your socket or electrical connection.
The blade on the wet saw should be a continuous rim blade or a blade recommended by the manufacturer for cutting stone tile.
There are three types of wet saws available for sale and for rent. The largest, most powerful has a very large diamond blade and a moveable table that allows for careful feeding of the stone into the blade. A smaller table saw with a fixed table is very handy for smaller jobs and smaller pieces. A handheld wet/dry saw is lightweight and versatile, though it can be less accurate. All of these, properly used, will make clean, straight cuts in stone.
Using a dry saw to cut stone tile
Many companies make dry blades that will cut brick and stone. These saws are useful for small jobs where the setting up of a wet saw is inconvenient. The disadvantages of a dry saw include the large amounts of dust created during use, and the increased possibility of chipping and breakage of the stone being cut. Dry saws should only be used outdoors, and require the user to wear a dust mask in addition to goggles.
